The South Korean media is expressing their huge concern on the case if South Korea sits in same pot with Vietnam in World Cup 2022 Qualifiers.
According to the draw, South Korea is in Pot 1 and Vietnam is pooled in Pot 2 with their 15th rank in Asia, thereby it is possible that Park Hang-seo’s side will face South Korea right in the first place.
South Korea is still one of the leading teams in the region, Son Heung-min and his teammates have joined World Cup for many times and proved no fear to face weaker opponents.
However, South Korean media has a different view, according to a Best Eleven report, the worst scenario is when South Korea is grouped with Vietnam, North Korea and Kuwait:
“South Korea’s worst thing on their qualifying round? The worst scenario is to be in the same group with Vietnam, North Korea and Kuwait. Of course, they don’t fear of any teams yet those are hard-fought rivals and nothing to guarantee this won’t happen”- Best Eleven affirmed.
Best Eleven’s worries is clearly understandable as the quality gap among Asian team is narrower considerably, of which Vietnam emerges as a star after their continuous success
In World Cup 2022 Qualifiers in Asia zone, Pot 1 consists of Iran, Qatar, Japan, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Australia, China, South Korea.
Since Park Hang-seo took over Vietnam, he faced his home country teams twice in AFC U23 Championship 2018 and ASIAD 2018, yet South Korea won 2 games.
The draw for World Cup 2022 Qualifiers is scheduled to be held in Malaysia.
